Save Our Scenery - Protecting Our Heritage Coastline

What Have We Been Doing?

  1. We have conducted a thorough assessment of Npower's submission and produced and dispatched a 100 page submission to the DTi - detailing our objections.  Please click here to read our covering letter enclosed with the submission.

  2. On the 9th February 2006 at a special meeting of the full council - SOS gave a presentation alongside Npower to the Conwy County Borough Council.  Following which the council voted unanimously to object to Gwynt-y-Mor and to ask the DTi to call for a public enquiry.

  3. We have organised  a petition of 5000 signatures against the Wind Farm

  4. We set up a stall in the Victorian Shopping Centre in Llandudno on Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd January, during which time over 800 people signed objection letters which we have included in our submission and sent on their behalf to the DTi.

  5. We have successfully lobbied Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Councils to call:

    ·        A public inquiry

    ·        Object to the Gwynt-y-Mor proposal

    ·        Seek a recall of the Rhyl Flats Proposal

  6. Mostyn Estates, the Victoria Centre, British Resorts Association, the Llandudno Hospitality Association have all registered objections and called for a public enquiry.

  7. We have worked closely with David Jones MP for Clwyd West who has managed to bring about a  review of Welsh Energy policy.

  8. We have made our own DVD which we are using top raise public awareness to the threat that Npower's proposals pose to our beautiful coastline.

  9. Our team of enthusiastic volunteers have distributed about 5000 leaflets.

  10. We have funded a one page advert in the local press.

  11. A delegation from SOS has met with Llandudno’s MP Betty Williams. Following our continued lobbying she has written to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to call for a public enquiry into Gwynt-y-Mor..

  12. SOS has submitted a report to the Select Committee for Welsh Affairs and has been invited to meet with members of the committee before the DTI deadline of the 27th January.

  13. SOS have designed, launched and maintained this website.

  14. We continue to work with local MPs and Assembly Members seeking their support.

SOS is working on:-

  1. Lobbying Members of the Welsh Assembly

  2. Completing the challenge to have Rhyl Flats recalled.

  3. Embarking on more leafleting

  4. Continuing to maintain an information campaign through the local press.

  5. Continuing the pressure on National Media to uncover why the proposal to site the 8th largest wind farm in the world in our bay has received no national news coverage when smaller proposals get into the national media.

SOS has raised almost two thousand pounds from amongst residents and visitors and this

has funded our achievements so far. One hotel has given us a room for our meetings and

another has done all our photo-copying. Without these gifts in kind we

could not have achieved so much.

If you love this beautiful bay as we do please ask yourself what you

can do to help in the fight to save it.

Donations however little or large will help

Cheques should be made payable to Save Our Scenery.
